I am using crystal ver 8.5. I want to link table1 to table 2 by a field that is common in both of them. The only problem is the data in one table has the field defined as a number and in the other a text. Other then this small issue the field will contain the same type of values. Is there a way or formula that can be used to do this type of link.

I am an end user and cannot modify the structure of the db.

Thanks

You can add the second table in a subreport where you create a formula to convert the field to match the one in the main report. Then link the subreport to the main report by linking the main report field to the subreport formula. Be sure that the formula is formatted to match the format of the field in the main report.

You might avoid using a subreport (slow performance) by using real SQL and within the SQL CASTing the string data to a numeric.

This would require learning what type of database you're using, creating the SQL, and then pasting it into the ADO connection.

I would also suggest that you bring this design flaw to the attention of the dba and request that they generate a View which casts the data to a common type. If they disagree, bring it to the IT Manager's attention that they need a new dba...

Thanks for the help. Since I am under a time constraint I will use the subreport option.
Thanks also for the information sql option solution as well. You were correct in indicating the subreport will slow the report down and I will eventually use this but as I stated above I have to meet a deadline and do not have the time to experiment to learn how to use it.
