Hi,

I have a problem in my Illustrator 10. After I type some text and I want to 'shrink' (not sure the right word or not) the text to be a smaller space, it didnt work at all.

** please see the image below for better explanation**

But in Illustrator 9, it works perfectly fine. Is there anyone here ever have the same problem before ??

** please see the image below for better explanation**

I've been re-install the Illustrator 10 for 5 times already and still do the same thing.

Please I need help desperately

Thanks in advance.

Your top example shows what a text box looks like after it has been clicked on with the direct selection tool, this is only for reshaping the texts bounding box. You need to now switch to the Transform tool (e) to resize the text.

dimoj : thanks for the reply. But I dont want to resize the text. The right way, when you mouseOver the text box w/ selection tool (V)...it will show the little sign like in Ill 9. So we can make the 'text box' smaller...NOT the 'text'. I dont know how to explain it more clearly, I hope you understand about this.

Thanks

Ok I get you. I don't have AI9 but speaking for 10...your top image is the result of clicking the text with the DIRECT SELECTION tool (white arrow(A)), the bottom example is the result of clicking the text with the SELECTION tool (black arrow (V)).

See how in your top example the four corner anchor points are all black? This means they are all selected and the whole text box will just move if you try to drag on one of the corner anchors. If you use the DIRECT SELECTION (A) and drag a little rectangle around just one corner point (so it is the only one that is black) you can then continue to use the DIRECT SELECTION tool to drag that corner point wherever you want it.

To shrink all the text box click on the text with the SELECTION tool (V) and then move your pointer to one of the corner anchor points where it will turn to a double headed arrow. You can now drag and shrink the texts bounding box while the text remains the same size.

Unless your Illustrator is bugging out this should work for you.

By the way the above instructions only work while the text is in its natural form. Once text been converted to curves the same action with the SELECTION tool will resize the text as well as the bounding box.

dimoj : nope....it didnt work. :( this is weird....really.
