I was replacing a BT installed IP office 500v2, with 9508 handsets.

and they had the words "BT Telephone System" displayed above the buttons on the screen, below the users name.

I was just curious on how they achieved that?

have a look there is a branding licence.

even if you delete that licence it still shows the text.

flatten the switch, format the SD card, force a firmware upgrade of the handsets.

That line is used by an absent text too.
Perhaps setting an absent text will overrule it?
But that does not solve it, follow HSM's solution to get rid of it.
