I have a crosstab query that is returning a text field in the values. Some of these values are longer than I need and I can't seem to figure out how to get just the first three characters. I tried Left$ with no luck and received an error stating that the field I selected was not valid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,
Rich

It sounds like the crosstab query may be based directly from a table. Try creating a select query and using the Left function there, then create the crosstab query based on the select query.

You should be able to use Left([YourField],3) and then First in the TOtals line. If this doesn't work, copy the SQL into a reply.
