Is it possible to have a text field to write in when a crystal report is running? Say a parameter field or something where you could type the text you want to show in the field as the report is displayed?

thanks

Yes, you could use a parameter for this. The parameter would have to be set before the report is run. How long the string in the parameter can be depends on which version of Crystal you're running, so you would want to test to determine that number.

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.

how would you set up the parameter field? Also, can it only be used before the report is run.

We have version 8.5

You can create a new parameter in CR 8.5 (In the field explorer window, click on Parameter Fields and click on the New Icon). Then you can drop into the report any place you need it. When you run the report, you will be prompted to fill in the parameter. Then CR processes the report.

I hope this help.s

can a parameter be set after the report is run....basically Im wanting to create notes fields for the user running the report where they can type in.

Sort of.... The user would have to enter just a space in the parameter the first time the report is run and then refresh the report and enter the notes.

Also, with Crystal 8.5 you will have a limit of 256 characters.

how do you refresh a report after it has been run?

To refresh, try [F5]. If that fails, look on the menu. Refresh is under Reports in Crystal 2008: no idea if Crystal 8.5 was the same.

Right-clicking at the top also should allow you to add the icons, if you don't have them.

Of course you have a refresh button--it is what you use to run the report--I think it is something like a lightning bolt icon in 8.5
