Text Edit help for a newbie

I've just started using Fireworks and seem to have lost my Text Edit box. When I select the Text tool, I can enter text directly onto to the page but don't get the edit box, just a bounding box and a hand symbol. I can't save text. The only key that works is "esc" that exits from text input.
Anyone any ides how I can rstore the Text edit box?

It might just be popping up outside your viewable range. Try resizing your display to oh say 1600 x 1200 and try creating text. If you see your text box now move your move it into a spot where you will be able to see it in a lower resolution then change your display settings back to what they were.
