Text conversion: INITCAP

In my work, I have found the need to convert text string from uppercase to initial capitalization. Many other reporting tools or database extraction tools have a function known as INITCAP or Sentence Case. Does anyone have some advice for me regarding the conversion of text which has been entered into a field in uppercase to initial caps or sentence case using's Info Report Designer?

I do not know if this will work in info, but in crystal reports you can download the Proper() function from the Crystal Decisions website and it will capitalize the first letter of every work in a string.

I'm having difficulty finding a download for PROPER(). I have downloaded one for LEADINGCAPS(). But it converts a string: (X) but the contents of the field is unknown to me. I need a function which will be used against a field.
Sample syntax:

INITCAP({fieldname})

Does PROPER() work this way?
Do you know the *.exe file I should be downloading from crystaldecisions?

You might consider creating a SQL Expression instead of a formula. Depending on your database driver, you may have an INITCAP() function available.

I tested one of my reports: INITCAP() wasn't available using the CR Oracle8 ODBC driver, but it was available using the Native Oracle Driver.

The plus side to using SQL Expressions is that they are treated as database fields, therefore, they can be used in your record select statement without negatively impacting performance (like Crystal formulas do).
