I'm confused. In Microsoft Word when you hightlight the text and choose a paragraph layout ( Left Justified, Right Justified, Centered, Blocked, etc) it automatically reformats the paragraph layout.

When I try this in Illus 10, the left and right justified and centered paragraph layouts work fine, but nothing happens when I try to use the blocked (edge to edge) paragraph layout.

Any ideas???

Thanks in Advance

Jeff:

Left and right aligned is not called justified, the term justified is used to describe what you call blocked text.

Now, the meat of your question:

I assume you're using point type (click with the type tool and start typing) in which case you cannot justify because there are no "walls" to justify to...

You must use area type, which you accomplish by doing one of these steps:

1. With the type tool, click and drag out a rectangle, and start typing. Then, select the type and justify;

or

2. Click on the edge of a regular rectangle (or other shape) with the type tool and it will become a type container. Select text and justify.

Additionally, if you use area type don't use hard returns, unless you want to use full justify. The type tool will automatically enter soft returns as needed.
