Are there any VPN Servers on the Internet somewhere by which I can test a VPN client connection from my own machine ? I am not trying to actually get into a VPN server system to do anything but just to see whether or not I can successfully make a connection.

I have a machine running Win2k, with a DI-714P+ router, which is supposed to support VPN passthrough, connected to a Speedstream DSL modem which is connected to the Internet via a DSL line.

In the past I have twiced attempted to connect my VPN client to an employer's VPN server address, and have failed both times. Since I may well be employed again soon in a telecommuting job, I want to make sure I can get my system working as a VPN client. I do not want to have to wait for my prospective employer's VPN server information, and then struggle through weeks of trying to make my VPN client connection work only to fail again. Instead I want to determine the reason for the past failures beforehand and get my machine to successfully work as a VPN client, as it should do given that my router is supposed to support VPN.

I'm not aware of any public service, however you need to keep in mind that VPN clients are not 100% inter-operable and in fact some are very proprietary.
Depending on the configuration of you future employer you might find your proactive configuration attempts futile.

For example, my firm is a Notrel shop, which I have configured to only allow Nortel VPN clients to connect. This is not an uncommon practice for many companies.
