Testing the existence of a server variable

I have a server variable that exists in some instances and not in others. In my asp page, I need to test for the existence of the server variable and do one thing when it exists, otherwise do nothing. I have been unsuccessful in locating the VBScript syntax to do this. Can anyone help? - Thank you.
