Hi,
My Maxtor 91303D6 (13 GB UDMA-33 Maxtor Hard Drive)is getting on in years. I fist bought it in September of 99 and have used it fairly extensively since then. I am wondering what testing software is available for download (preferably free) to see how it is doing.

I have Norton SystemWorks version 2001.04 Build 50 and I have run the Norton Diagnostics and it says things are OK (I guess).

There are some errors on the drive but I haven’t noticed any increase in the number lately.
The drive is fairly noisy when it’s working but I think it has always been that way. It does not make any particular noise on start up or on shut down.

Below is some information on my hard drive, CPU and Motherboard. I’m not educated enough to know if this information is relevant to my question or not so I just included it anyway.

Any assistance appreciated.

Sincerely,
Daniel Hallas

I would say that when a drive starts developing bad clusters and odd noises time is not on your side.
It maybe that it runs without fault for another year or it might just not boot one morning next week, you never can tell.
If money is the issue then just make sure you regullarly backup your important files so if something does happen it won't be such a hard blow. Martin. Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.

Hey! Is it still in warranty? 3 years? might be worth an Email to Maxtor? Exagerate a little!!! Martin Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.
