OK, I acquired a bunch of OPTIPOINT 500 Advance Phones in a lot auctions with other telecom equipment. I have the power supply for the phones. How can I verify that these phone work without the processing unit? Should the phones at least light up when plugged in?

Thanks!!

500's shouldn't need power supplies unless you connect the analog adapter under the phone or some other gizmo, and then the power supply gets inserted into the phone line. I am using 500's without power supplies - they require Optiset cards in the switch to work.

The IP phones (410 and 420, Openstage) will require power supplies if you do not connect them to a POE ethernet port. Those you can tell if they are working (as much as network connectivity and ability to navigate the menus) without connecting them to a switch.

So there is no way to test them w/o having any other HiCom equipment? I had thought the customer said they were using them on a Partner system as single line phones, but i'm not seeing how...?

No way. Those phones use a Siemens proprietary signaling protocol. I understand that they are very much in demand by Siemens customers, but only if they are working!

Yes, I very much do not care for the Openstage phones out of the box, and from what I'm told that is one of the biggest things they are getting dinged for on surveys right now, but they released a new hunk of stainless steel that serves as a very nice desk stand for the phone and it actually makes them much more enjoyable to use - except that it costs ME and extra $30 to fix their poorly thought out design... :)
