Ok I'm on tap to take both A+ and the Network + over the span of the next 3-4 months. My work is paying and they are sending me to a week long class before each test at a New Horizons center. So needless to say I want and need to pass the first time on each test. I hate the idea of going to my boss and saying I didn't pass can I take it again:(

Any words of wisdom?

And also I had taken a class for A+ awhile back and they were saying something like the test would remember what you got wrong and keep asking your those same questions. Is it still like that?

If you are currently working in the topics covered by the exams, you probably won't have too much trouble. I had trouble with the A+ because I took it before landing a job in the field. When I passed the Net+ the only thing I studied was the port numbers. I scored an 820 and I thought it was simple. That was because I did the job everyday.

I think the keys to these exams is to actually work in these skills sets. Lab time only does so much. After working in these technologies, then it's just a matter of reviewing the information and doing mock exams to get used to the exam formats and the tricky little questioning methods testing companies use to see if your paying attention.

Then relax and feel confident when you step into that room.

sysadmin123,

Quite a while ago, CompTIA exams were adaptive; if you got an answer wrong, you'd get more questions on a similar topic.

I could look up the date that they stopped doing this, but certainly as of today their tests are a set number of questions, no more no less. If you get one wrong, you get one wrong.

When I took the A+ (a year ago) and the Net+ (6 months ago), all the questions were multiple-choice or point-and-click. I doubt that they've changed since then.

Hey sys,

I would recommend that you start gathering your study materials now so that the New Horizons class will be more like a review than a class. start by printing out the exam objectives from the compTIA web site.

Next, go to this site and start studying. It's free and very good material.

start some serious study now and you could be head and shoulders above the rest of the class. Good Luck!

and actually from personal experience

I wouldn't touch New Horizions with a 10 foot pole if I was getting a bonus to go there, and work paid for it.

Personal experience, basically I gave them 2K for A+ and Net+ classes - use of their facilities, yadda yadda, etc.

Who promptly went bankrupt (this local branch).

I finally got the classes in a little modular trailer attached to a hospital who was threatening to sue the heck outta the owners of this branch of NH.

15 days back to back. (except for sundays and one saturday)

Left a bad taste in my mouth and I feel it was a waste of 2K.

All NH does is give you their study books and gloss over the material. In all honesty thats about all they can do in 5 days. Probably no different than many of these types of places.

You'd be better served (and your company) by getting some friends together with flash cards or quizes - and grilling you.

all IMHO. But it's a strong one.

and check out my previous posts for what I used to study for. It worked for me. Have no doubt - A+ is not a simple test anymore. There is a very wide range of topics and as TCat said - the OS test seems to target the OS you know least about.
