Trying to assist with testing an 016 w/ring generator and neither of us know what we are doing. I am 30 years large business and IP Office with a smattering of Nortel. He is a junior assistant. On a Legend, can we power it down, take a working 012 Basic out and plug in this 016 to see if it is a good card please or do we have to do some system programming? When you plug a card into a Legend, does it automatically give you the ports and extensions?
Reading up on system programming now but struggling to find the answers. Thanks in advance.

The card needs to match what the slot is expecting to be there, Since it's a lab system, are you free to default it? If so, I would put a MLX card in the 1st slot so that you can connect a MLX-20L programming telephone, then you can put your 016 in slot 2. Default the system, when it comes up it will see the cards ans assign extension numbers automatically. You will be in Key mode, but you will be able to place calls between the programming phone and the ports on the 016, testing for operation and ringing.
