What can i do to test sendmail? I am using Zencart and cant seem to get the email working. It is under PHP so I think the error is under PHP or sendmail itself. Thanks

Please keep in mind that I "attemped" to make sendmail "bounce" off of my ISPs SMTP so I dint know if that makes a difference.

First execute "tail -f /var/log/maillog" on the sendmail machine. Then telnet to port 25 of the sendmail machine and issue the following series of commands, substituting your domain for example.com:

HELO example.com
MAIL FROM:user@example.com
RCPT TO:user@example.com
DATA
This is a test
.

If sendmail is configured correctly, the message will be delivered. If not, the log you're watching should give you a good idea of what's wrong.

If you are using your isp's mail server, then you don't need sendmail at all. Point your php script to your smtp account along with the username and password it will need. Php has a built in mail function that sends mail out just like your e-mail client does.
