I have got a Server running Windows 2000 Server that is an Active Directory Domain Controller. In it I have set up a user called user1. "Logon Locally" and "Access this computer from the network" rights has been assigned to "Everyone" in Local Security Policy and Group Policy.

However, the user cannot logon to the machine through Terminal Services Client, after entering username and password for user1, a warning is returned saying I don't have rights to do so. However, the Administrator user can log on through terminal services. The user user1 can also logon "locally" on the server console directly. What do I need to do to enable user1 to logon through terminal services client?

The client is running Remote Desktop on Windows XP Professional SP2.

is your terminal server running in administrative or application mode? If it is in admin mode then a users must have administrative rights to log on.

Assigning the user to a local group would probably just let that user utilize the resources on the server locally. Try adding the user to a domain group & creating a terminal service profile by right clicking on the group name in active directory & going to Terminal Services Profile. I hope this work out for you. Good luck!
