Hi everyone,

We are currently migrating from an NT4 domain to a Windows 2000 Active Directory domain.

I'm responsible on migrating Terminal Servers.

Right now I'm planning the License servers on our domain controllers. I'll need to deactivate old license servers a couple of days/weeks after.

Do I absolutely have to call Microsoft Clearinghouse ?

Thanks

Yes. They will need to reissue your licenses to you so you can install them on the new license server. There is no way for you to transfer them from the old server to the new server.

Make sure you have all your licensing documentation when you call.

Thanks for your answer mlichstein. That's what I thought.

First, I've got to say that we've got 4 TS servers to migrate and each got his own TS licenses server. Don't know why but it's like that.

Here is the way I want to do it:
1) Install Terminal Services Licensing on our DCs of our new domain.
2) Activate new licenses servers.
3) Migrate an old TS licenses server:
- Deactivate license server on this old TS server.
- Call Microsoft ClearingHouse to reissue licenses that where managed with this old TS server.
- Point this server to use a still existing license server in my old domain.
4) Install licenses reissued by Microsoft on my new licenses servers.
5) Install my new TS server within new W2k domain. It'll then use the new licenses servers. My old one could now be closed.
6) Repeat steps 3 to 5 for each TS servers.

I've got plenty of TS CAL to do it like that.

Is that correct ?

Thank you all !!!

That looks ok, but why continue to have multiple licensing servers? Just install the service on one and install all the TS CALs on that one server.

Hi,

you're really fast. Thanks. I really appreciate it.

I wanted to have two licenses servers, on two of our DCs. The only reason is to have redundancy in case of a crash.

Ain't that a good idea ?

By the way, is there a way to assure licenses replication within two licenses servers ?

Thanks !

You may be able to install the licenses without calling microsoft. I had a DC crash on me that had my License server on it. I installed the original Licenses about 2 years ago and when I reinstalled them on the new DC it activted fine.

Thank you all,

I'll try to install it. I thought Microsoft had to validate TS CAL informations when installing them.

I want to install two licenses servers. It's highly suggested by Microsoft. Here's the link: See the note at the bottom of the page 5...

Thanks...

Thats what I thought also but i gave it a try and it worked.
