Hello,

I'm new to Terminal Server, and I was trying to change all Terminal server users Word Startup folder location to point to a shared folder that contains a .DOT file containing AutoText settings, but I'm not have any luck in doing this.

Please can someone tell me what I need to do to do this ,a and if i can do the same thing with Excel )

Many thanks in advance

Gerald

Yea, it's possible to do this for both Excel and Word 2003 - which version are you using? If you're using Office 2003 on the TS machine, you'll need to add the Excel and Word admin templates to a polcy and configure the options as follows:
[Word]
Administrative Templates > Microsoft Office Word 2003 > Tools | Options ... > File Locations > Documents
[Excel]
Administrative Templates > Microsoft Office Excel 2003 > Tools | Options ... > General > Default file location

However ... the settings are user settings, not computer settings. So if you have users that log onto the TS machine and also onto regular desktops using the same account then this may cause you some problems. The obvious way around this would be to enable loopback processing, but this can also bring it's own problems depending on your setup.

Also bear in mind that this is not a preference, it's a polciy - so if users to into this dialogue box in Word/Excel they will not be able to change it.

If you are just interested in putting in the default location but allow users to change it if they want, then you should probably look at writing your own admin template which would set this as a preference rather than a policy. Or perhaps look at using one of the tools in the Office Resource Kit (ORK).

The admin templates are included in the ORK which can be downloaded from this link:

Good Luck :)
