Terminal server - printing to locally attached printers 1

The terminal server client printers come in two flavors; network shared printers and locally attached printers (such as those directly connected via USB or parallel port).

I have no problem getting network shared printers to work. I can either add this manually on the server, or have the RDP client map the printers over (and install the drivers on the server if necessary).

Using the latter method described above, I have in the past also been able to make unshared, locally attached print devices available on the terminal server. But I am trying to do it now, without any success.

I have installed the same print driver on both the client and the server. The event log does not show any information in regards to the local printers, but it does tell you if network printers succeeded or failed to be added to the TS session.

Any ideas? I'm fairly certain I have set this up in the past without any issues; not sure what I'm missing now.

Put this line of text into notepad and save it with a ".reg" extension and run it on your local machine (not the TS). Then login to the terminal server and see if it redirects the local printers.
