I've a got a few users that complain from time to time about their Outlook 2003 acting up. The issue is, when they're typing in an email all of a sudden the whole sentence or more they're typing in will become what looks like it's highlighted. They can keep typing and they can't see what they're putting down because it's all black. However, clicking away from the area removes the highlight. Sometimes it'll come back right away, sometimes not. This doesn't seem to happen to everyone, just random people at random times.

Anyone seen this before?

No, but did you type in "terminal server" to mean that they're launching Outlook via a Terminal server session?

When you say
clicking away from the area
do you mean when they click outside of an outlook message window or outside the terminal server window?

Have you tried turning off Word as the editor for your messages?

I would run a custom windows update (not express) on there machine and check to see if there are newer graphics drivers.

Also check the MS office update site for outlook patches.

Pathping from server to remote and the reverse to check for lost packets; more than a few errors, and you have a router enroute droping packets, causing retransmits. You need to run pathping from each remote to server. If this is so, check out MTU blackhole, adjust MTU at all endpoints.
