We have Terminal Server/Remote Desktop set up on two load balanced Server 2003 servers. Just recently, we started experiencing a problem where the client computers cannot right click on any file without hanging. It also hangs when we highlight a file and try to click anything on the menu bar. Folders do not seem to be affected.

Has anyone run into this problem and found a fix?

Thanks,
Lou V.

Would somebody please reply to this thread just so I know it is visible. It is very unusual to not get any replies at all.

I assume the event viewer doesn't report anything unusual?

By the looks, it hangs as soon as any context menu is brought up. Sounds like kernel code or file corruption.

backup the lot, and try removing and reinstalling TS. I know that can mean a lot of work, It's just a suggestion, my thoughts. Can't assure a remedy here. But if all else fails, this would be the option.

As an alternative, you could try running NTREGMON and FILEMON from sysinternals.com and see what it is actually doing at the time. I cannot disagree with pmf71 though avoiding the pain of re-install sounds like a good idea.

I have run filemon already and did not see anything out of the ordinary. I will try ntregmon next, although I don't pretend to understand all that is going on, on a busy terminal server. If you have any suggestions on what to look for, I would like to hear them.

Who does !

I tend to look for "ACCDEN" or "ACCESS DENIED" and try and figure out what it is doing and why ? Having used it for 6 years, I sadly begin to understand programmers minds[blush].

The files are massive are they not.
