We are a recruiting firm that has 20 users running on terminal server 2003.

We are noticing a high CPU usage on IE7. So much so that if 5 folks are browsing the web simultaneously, the server CPU usage runs at 100%. We also run window 2003 Outlook and Office. No other application pegs the CPU like IE7.

Is there a way to make IE7 run on a different server? Is there a way to reduce the amount of CPU IE7 uses? Does IE8 use less resources then IE7?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Dom

Have them use the internet on their pc and disable it on the server. With all the virus that are out there today it is better that a pc get infected then the server.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, we have thin clients not PC's so that idea won't work.
Thanks again for your response.

Then use Firefox as that browser is more secure and uses less resources. There is now way to make IE run from a different server.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will bring it up with the boss. However, we are a Microsoft shop and he probably won't like the idea.

Well unless your are using GP for settings in IE Firefox would be the best.

We are using Group Policies for IE.

What are the specs of your server? I've got a client with 22 users most of whom have IE open along with at least three MS apps each and their terminal server never gets much above 60% CPU usage.

Hope this helps.

I have a TS with 30 users runing IE8, no problems other than it being a memory hog. I would upgrade it to IE8 unless you have a compelling reason not to.

I agree upgrade to IE8 being you use GP. You also might want to look at adding more memory as well.
