Terminal License Server problem!

Hi,

I have a W2K domain controller which is also a Terminal Server License Server, which has been servicing TS Licenses to both of my W2K Terminal Servers my users use.

I have now upgraded one of the Terminal Servers to W2K3, I have also made this W2K3 server as a Terminal Server License Server, &, I have activated 25 per device licenses.

But, - when users try to connect to this W2K3 Terminal Server they are still recieving "there are no terminal server license servers to provide a license".

Can anyone shed any light? It seems as though it's going to my W2K TS License Server & not looking any further for licenses?

Any help much appreciated!

you can only have 1 TS license server.

Thanks for that. So my next step would presumably be to deactivate the Windows 2000 TS License Server, - although the option is greyed out.

When I open up TS License Manager, it only find the W2K TS, - never the W2K3 one. Unless I specifically connect to it.

If I manage to deactivate the W2K TS, will all the clients then automatically find the new W2K3 TS ?

Okay i've fixed this now. I'll provide the solution in case anyone else needs in in the future.

As I said, the deactivation button was greyed out, - so, after installed the W2K CALs on the W2K3 TS LS, I uninstalled the LS on the W2K box via add/remove components.

Then, I added two new registry keys on both the Terminal Servers so they would know about the new License Server (the keys I added are the last two here:

HKLM/SYSTEM/CURRENTCONTROLSET/SERVICES/TermService/Parameters/LicenseServers/<fully qualified TS LS>

Rebooted, & now clients are picking up the new TS LS. However, they are using the temporary licenses, not the CAL Tokens!! ARGH!!!

just stumbled accross this thread again - the problem above using temp tokens is a normal default process designed because of security reasons, - the next time the client leases a license it will have a permanant cal

That is true. You also shouldnt need any TS licenses for windows XP or 2k workstations that access the 2k TS as MS had a bit of a loop hole in licensing for 2k TS. windows XP or 2k workstations can access a 2k TS for free basically. you can see this by going into the TS license server and under the 2k license container it should say unlimited license and the issued tokens have no experation date. Just an FYI.
