Just got a new pc unfortunately with Windows 8. One of the several programs I can no longer use is Procomm. The installation still failed using compatibility mode. I can use the company's pc at home when I need to (Windows 7), but it was convenient having Procomm on the home pc. Along with that iNotes won't display correctly when I VPN to the network, so I'll expect trouble with Manager E, haven't even tried that yet. Is there a terminal emulator compatible with Windows 8 that will support ANSIBBS, and other emulation?

Unless you can get Comwin on there you need ProComm to do the keyboard emulation for 9006 if you are using 9006.

If not, download "Putty", which works pretty good.

I had issues with Procomm Plus (ProComm Plus 5 for windows), but because Procomm is based on an old DOS version of the codebase and doesn't really mess with the registry I just went ahead and copied the program directory structure from a computer that already had it set up onto my windows 8 PC and then made a link on the desktop to the PW5.EXE (in my case) file that is under the Programs subdirectory of ProComm. It should run then without caring which OS it is on.

Put the directory structure in the same place when you copy it over (C:\Program Files\Symantec\Procomm Plus) and it should run just fine.

I was thinking of doing just that - copy the program directory structure. I do have putty, but would need the terminal emulation to get ino UBA to check backups, but it wouldn't be mandatory since I'd use my home pc only when on call just for direct AMO. I haven't installed putty on the home pc yet. When logging in with that what terminal type should I choose during the login for direct AMO only? I also access some Avayas that use ATT4410, so it would be nice to get Procomm going.

I DO use putty to get into UBA to check my backups on the few systems new enough to be on the LAN. You can go forward, but not backward, but it gets the job done.

I will get in there to look at the status in UBA just with the arrow keys and enter, then right click on the Putty top bar, choose "Special Command" and "Abort Process" - that will drop you back one notch. Do it again to disconnect from your session. You can't do anything that requires you to press F3 or F10, but you can do some of the most basic stuff that anyone cares about....
