We are looking to use Linux for an operating systems for as many as 500 clients, all independent. So far, porting the software over from SCO Open Server has gone reasonably well. The problem now is the terminal, xterminal, and console function keys do not work as in SCO. I have tried using the termcap file but it does not appear to have any effect whatsoever. I am using RH6.1 and have called tech support under the free installation period. Their answer was to buy a block of support. Wrong answer! In SCO, it is a simple matter to define screen attributes and keymapping with the termcap file. In Linux, I cannot seem to accomplish this at all. I have tried modifying the key map by downloading the keymap file, modifying it, then reloading it with the loadkeys command. Again, no effect. If I cannot get the keysa to function properly, the whole project will be scrapped. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked at the terminfo entries? Log in from the xterminal you're having problems with, and type &quot;<FONT FACE=monospace>infocmp</font>&quot;. This will show the terminfo settings for your terminal.<br>
<br>
If you want to make a change to the terminfo settings, send the output of &quot;<FONT FACE=monospace>infocmp</font>&quot; to a file, make the changes, and recompile the definition using &quot;<FONT FACE=monospace>tic</font>&quot;. (Although, you'll probably want to take a backup copy of the original compiled definition in &quot;<FONT FACE=monospace>/usr/lib/terminfo/<i>?</i></font>&quot;, where &quot;<i>?</i>&quot; is the initial letter of your terminal type, before doing this.)<br>
<br>
Not sure if this is available under Linux, but if you've got a termcap entry that works/should work OK, and you want to convert it to terminfo format ready for compiling by &quot;tic&quot;, you can use &quot;<FONT FACE=monospace>captoinfo</font>&quot;.<br>
<br>
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Igive it a try and let you know. I do have entries that work for SCO. I am going to try those first, but our software is fairly tolerant of terminals and should allow some of the entries work.
