Hi,
There have been several questions about Teradata DEMO on Windows XP and more recently Teradata DEMO on W2K with Service Pack 3.

It turns out that Microsoft fixed a BUG in their software which caused Teradata to stop working. They fixed this in Both XP and Now W2K SP3.

There is a patch file available to allow the Teradata Demo V2r4.1 to function properly on both XP and W2K service pack 3.

You can also install this patch on W2K SP2 as well since the patch simply avoids the BUG and that way you won't have to worry about the DEMO not working after upgrading to SP3.

To get the patch Go to the Teradata Demo download page. and click on FAQ and follow the link to the following question.

If you are running Windows XP Pro is there an update available that allows the demo to be compatible with XP Pro?

Dowload the XP patch and the README file.

Follow the instructions in the README file to install the patch.

Gateway Bind error on Windows XP.

The README file at the above link also contains instructions on how to work around the Gateway bind issue.

Nope - I have the current WXP Pro all patched and updated from MSFT.

Loaded the files from this link and did the workaround.
It does not solve the problem.

Hi,
Where are you running the client Aplications from? the same box where the Teradata server is running or a different box?

Are you still getting the 10048 Bind error from Gateway at start up?

I just read the directions and they are very poor. Hopefully these are clearer.

1. edit the file system32\drivers\etc\services

change the port for

tdmst

to be some other number other than 1025. I like 1048 personally.

2. Click right on My Computer and select properties.
go to the advanced tab
click on environment variables
Click on New under System variable
name tdmstport
value ( same value you speicified above )

3. for ODBC you need to modify the connection properties for Demo1099 by clicking on options Advanced and change the port number to match the number you specificed above.

Sorry I don't know how to update JDBC.

you may have to REBOOT after making all these changes so that gateway will read the new value when it starts up.

Also if you are using client applications from other PC's and directing them at this copy of teradata you will need to do points 2 and 3 on those workstations as well. This applies to Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, or XP client workstations.

Yes, I am running the client software on the same machine (laptop) as the database.

Yes, I absolutely agree with you that the documentation is poor. (Pretty much the standard with vendors these days )

Thanks for these instructions, much clearer. I will give this a try tonight, let you know how I fare.
