I have files in my Temporary Internet Files directory that show they have been accessed recently, when I know that I have not been to that site in years. How can this happen?
I think I figured it out. Every file in that sub folders to Internet.IEX folder, where showing last access dates pretty recent. I knew I had not been to any of the sites that the files/gif/etc... belonged to.
After a little looking, and seeing what happened againg last night, it would appear to me that my virus scan is accessing them during the nightly scan, and putting a last accessed time/date on them.
OK, I ran a manualy scan on one of these folders and it did not update the last accessed date/time. I am not sure what is doing this, but that last accessed stamp gets updated everynight at 2am.
Could that be due to leaving my mail or ie open?
I know what temp ie files are for, but can somebody tell me or direct me to somewhere that I could get a better idea of how these work?
There is nobody on the computer at 2am, so I am not sure how the last accessed date is getting update?????
Try disconnecting your PC from the network to make sure it isn't being access remotely. At least if it updates after that, you have some piece of mind. You have a spyware scanner? That may be doing it as well. If you don't have one, you may want to download one and run it.
