I have "inherited" an informix system, if my tempdbs is for temporary files, indexes and sorts etc. and is now filling up so that some large queries are failing with a "not enough temporary space" error
Can I not drop the tempdbs and then re-add it in-order to clear the contents?

or is that just not on?

thanks for any help with what is probably a silly question

What is the value of the DBTEMP environ variable ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

the DBTEMP variable is DBTEMP=/tmp

in onconfig
DBSPACETEMP tempdbs # Default temp dbspaces

and the onstat -d

e630544 4 4 0 256000 -5331 PO- /opt2/dbspaces/tempdb
s
e6306ec 6 4 0 524288 -7655 PO- /opt2/dbspaces/tempdbs_2
e6307c0 7 4 0 524288 59134 PO- /opt2/dbspaces/tempdbs_3

tempdbs_2 & 3 seems to be chunks added to tempdbs

hope this helps

It looks temp sort space is going out of space. Introduce the environment variable PSORT_DBTEMP to place sort files.
export PSORT_DBTEMP=/tmp

to place it on alternate locations try this:
export PSORT_DBTEMP=/tmp:/tmp2
