tempdb's database file gets detached from db

The database file of my tempdb database gets detached from the database frequently. Any Ideas? heres the configuration of my MSSQL server

version: MSSQL7
OS: NT 4
tempdbs database size: 1GB

Note:
I have also tried fragmenting the datafile into 4 files, 250MB each. The 4 db files was also detached like the single 1GB db file.
