Very rusty SQL Server Admin here.. My question.. I have a tempdb that has grown to 143000000 KB. Will reboot the server clear this out and reset it? SQL Server 2008R2

It depends.

When you start the SQL Server Service, temp db is recreated. The size of this database will be the "Initial Size" of the database. Assuming your initial size is not 143 GB, then it will likely get smaller.

And 'hidden' in George's response is that you don't need to reboot the server. All you really need to do is stop and start the SQL Server services.
