I'm running SQL 2005 with read committed snapshots and have read multiple articles both for and against having the number of temdb files match the number of logical processors that are in the server. I have 2 quad core CPU's, so do I really need 8 tempdb files of equal size?

By having 8 physical files SQL Server will be able to use the tempdb most optimally.
