temp table exists

When I try to run this

IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM tempdb.dbo.sys.objects WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID(N'tempdb..##ENTITY_DETAIL'))

I get the error: Incorrect syntax near ')'.

Is there a better way to check the existence of a temp table?

Try using OBJECT_ID function instead, e.g.

IF OBJECT_ID('TempDB..##Entity_Detail','U') IS NOT NULL
-- global temp table exists

Depending on the scope of the work you are doing, you may want to look into using Table Variables, instead of using a GLOBAL temp table.

You may be creating unecessary overhead for your command.
