Whenever a specific users connects via RD to 2003 Server a Temp profile gets created on the server. Most shortcuts and network drives are then missing. This seems like profile corruption but it works fine when user login to the local workstation - no profile corruption occurs.

We were having issues with specific users and temp profiles on one of our two W2K3 Terminal Servers. It was caused by user sessions not being completely terminated when a user logged off because some system processes and applications were occasionally maintaining connections to registry keys in the user profile.

Check your application event log for event ids 1517 and 1524. If they are showing then try installing the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service. The UPHCleanup service solved the issue for us.

Hope this helps.
