I have a Telrad with an IPEX2 and 7 ONS3 analog station boards used primarily for Caller ID on an Ascomm/Incomm. Trouble is Telrad is only putting out 44 volts (Ring Gen) and will not kick off the Incomm wav Ringer. Any way to boost voltage and or possibly change length of ring burst itself? TELRAD returns zero calls for support. Thanks for any assistance.

If all the analogue station boards are putting out low ring generator voltage you may have a bad power supply or a bad board loading down the supply output, thus affecting the others.

You might try process of elimination to find the problem.

As Syquest states, make sure it isn't a power supply or ring generator problem first.

If the cadence is not "normal" I'd suspect the cadence more than the voltage, but certainly it could be either.

For a ring voltage booster check Vikings web site or Mike Sandman's site (
Best of luck.

This is on All ONS boards and actually the current voltage 44vdc is correct and does notify the set but won't activate the ringer ONLY. It works fine on all other telephone sets. Just trying to maybe boost Ring Gen or even change the type ring burst to a longer cadence?

Thanks All!

44 VDC is battery, not ring voltage.

To measure ring voltage you need to be in the AC range of the meter and look during the ringing periods

Modern equipment may be cadence sensitive - if this is not normal US cadence that could be your problem.

Good luck

No only 44vlts is correct to Telard specs but. I was curious as to if the voltage could be increased. Thx

44 volts AC or DC?

If you are being told that Ringing is 44 volts DC then you badly need to get to second or third tier support.

Let me ask one more time. What is the ring cadence?

gknight1,
according to Telrad's documentation the ONS3 only puts out the 44vdc. The phones that the customer has purchased require 90vdc. Thx

What kind of analogue telsets are suppose to work with this ONS3 card?

All standard American ringers on analogue Tip/Ring lines are 90VAC @ 20-30Hz ONLY!

Well 99% of the sets out there work except for this one. These sets are INCOMM designed for the Elderly. The sets themselves see the incomming call but unable to trigger the ringer which I understand is a wav file and not your commin ringer which requires 90vdc to activate. Thats my dilemma!

What kind of analogue phone would use a .wav file?

I did a Google on INCOMM and found nothing related to a phone set for anybody! So just what is this phone you are trying to use?? Does it even have a ringer?!

What kind of elderly people would need a phone that won't even work on analogue lines!?!?

Jim,
Let me see if I can get you the exact everything frm one of these sets so we can get a better handle on it, thanks much.

Earl

I still can't believe that the ring voltage is DC - a standard phone line runs around 48 to 52 volts DC when not in use, any device that rings on 44 volts DC would be useless on a standard POTS line.

I always thought that to until Nortel and Telrad. I run many faxes and cordless phones off these ONS ports without any trouble. It is just these INCOMM phone. Again I do get the signal that a call is coming through but not enough to trigger the ringer.
