I have run into a problem after mirroring the rootvg on a VIO server. I performed the mirror using mirrorios, and ever since then, im unable to telnet to the VIOS server. I get the following message displayed.

telnet (aix_vio_02)

telnetd: failed to write to /etc/utmp: No space left on device
/dev/pts/0: You must "exec" login from the lowest login shell.

VIO version is 1.2.1.0, and going into the oem shell, i can see that all filesystems are nowhere near full.

Ive tried unmirrorring, and its still the same. Ive even added more space to the / filesystem.

Any idea's whats going on ?

If you are able to get to console root, remove the /etc/*tmp to clear out any corrupted system data files (they will get regenerated, but you will loss prior system stats like login accounting.) Run a full filesystem check and clear out any large files in the /tmp or /var/log directory. Next you will want to run a 'find / -size 100M' to check for huge files.

Otherwise, look into these links for possibilities:

Khalid
