How can I telnet to my SCO box v5.0 with my laptop move some files? I already have PPP setup with a dialup connection. But I want to telnet on the 100MB LAN to the box to speed the file transfer? Is there a setting to allow Telnet over the ethernet?

Do you have a communication program, or terminal emulator. If so, Telnet is probably one of the available connection methods. Use ansi, or even SCO-ansi if your software offers it as the emulation method. Supply the IP address of the SCO box you want to telnet to, then attempt to connect. If your terminal program window display an SCO login prompt, you can log on to the SCO box using an account that already exists on the SCO box.

The shell environment can vary based on the login account you use, and of course if SCO does not offer you a login prompt, there may be some other SCO specific services that need to be configured. To soon to go into that here & now.

Hope this helps...

if you just want to transfer files perhaps ftp is something to look into. Just ftp to the ip of the server. Issue username and password and start transfer. (the ftp-daemon must of course be active on the server).
let us know if it doesn´t work.
