I have having problems with my Telnet sessions timing out after the terminal has been idle to several minutes. I am running a Cisco PIX VPN solution to connect the remote office to the AIX server. We used to be on frame relay and I never had this problem. But once we switched to VPN, then my telnet sessions would time out after being idle for soem time. I set my VPN tunnel lifetime to 2 hous and I am expecting that all telnet sessions running across the VPN would not be terminated within that period. However, when terminals become idle in several minutes, I would los the connection. This only happens to idle telnet sessions.

Im fairly new to VPN so if anybody has experienced this before, I would grealy appreciate if you can share with me what you did to address the issue.

What is your TMOUT variable set to ?
if you dont want your telnet session timeout then set TMOUT=0 to in your .profile file.

This telnet being disconnected started happening only when we switched from frame-relay networok to VPN. So I am thinking it has nothing to do with the AIX server nor the telnet application. My guess is, its in the pix settings. Im just not sure what to change. I also use NAT in my perimeter router.
