Why am I able to connect to a telnet server from one machine and not the other? Both workstations are on the same network and tested using same password. Both machines see server using ping.

Could this be an NIC problem or cable problem?

Thanks!

binned,

Probably not if you can ping.

What happens exactly when you try to connect from the other machine?

On the other machine I am able to connect with out any problems. The machine in question has connected once out of the many attempts.

But what exactly happens when you try to connect?

Do you get an error message? Does it time out?

The Old Man

Message from server: disconnected by remote server.

binned,

Usually means error in user name or password or can be permissions on the telnet server. Is the server Unix or Windows? With Windows, usernames generally are not case sensitive bus passwords are. On Unix, both usernames and passwords are often case sensitive.

You'll need to provide more information if the above does not help.
