When I disable port 111 (sun rpc) by changing /etc/rc2.d/S71rpc to /etc/rc2/d/s71rpc
it seems to effect my ability to telnet.

I can remotely telnet to the box however after I enter a password the system just hangs.

Is this service critical to operation of Solaris ?

Wait a few seconds after hitting ENTER after entering you password, then hit control-c. Perhaps your login flow is attempting an RPC call ? This will break out of it.

What does "rlogin" do ?

Bill.
