hi all

i am using aix 4.3.2.0 os one of my machine.
i can telnet to any rs600 machine from this machine but while telneting to it from other machines after accepting for password it gives me some junk characters like ..

 $.Á.›.².Î+.ê//"/H !/¿
/ "/L²Äà ´ÅÄ´
ÄÄø´Ú ÚÄð Å: T´
J²Å 9 16:11:30 CST 2001 ÄÅ /
Á/
ÃÚÄð Å/_0
L²Äà ÚÄð Å: Th´ J²Å 25 17:16:37 CST 2001 ÄÅ /
Á/
ÃÚÄð Å/_0

and it continues... it gives me the shell prompt but, when i type something it appears like a junk character.

may be u can help me out.
thanks
nan

Its your term type that causing your junk to come up on your machine.

Now when you are telneting is it from a pc to the risk box
if it is. you need to change your term type, Eather befor you telnet in or after you telnet in.

if you telnet in type export TERM=wyse60 see if that works
if not try vt220 or vt100

I hope this helps.

nan,

It might well be your term-type but it could be your character set.

nandkumar4aix,

This sounds to like an /etc/motd corruption - This usually manifests itself in this way i.e. the login and password prompt appear o.k. but upon login and reading the /etc/motd file if it is corrupted you get control characters on screen.

When logging in to the box if commands work as expected after the initial rubbish on screen then look at the file in question:

more /etc/motd

N.B. if this is corrupted null it via:

> /etc/motd

and then login, is all o.k.??

If so restore back the motd file from mksysb.

Cheers

nand,

Having just read you mail thoroughly - it will be a term type problem as the motd file is read in and the corruption screws up your term type settings. Just null the /etc/motd file via:

> /etc/motd

This will sort out the problem.

Cheers

nand,

The exceed PC software will do the trick. I have used this many times before to fire back CDE to a PC.

I am glad that my mail sorted out your login problem.

Best of luck

nandkumar4aix,

I use reflection sutie for X and what seems like you're referring to is the redirection of the dtwm (desk-top window manager). If this is the case, yes, reflection X has this capability.... if fact that is what I am implementing here as I speak. What you will probably want to do is check out the evaluation copy (free) from WRQ. Here is a good link:
