I want to setup a Telnet Idle time to disconnect telnet clients after a certain period of time. How do i do this?

Hi,

To force a user-id to automatically logout if it is idle
for 30 minutes.(30*60=1800sec)
Edit the following in .profile of that user-id
TMOUT=1800; export TMOUT

I hope this helps....

The .profile is located in the user's home directory - probably something like /export/home/<username> if you're following the usual Solaris conventions. You can see whether it's there using ls -la (to show 'hidden' files too).

You can check a user's home directory by looking at their entry in /etc/passwd.

Hope this helps.

Although these have been helpful i need some more infomation do i need to reboot the machine to take effect as im X-)

You shouldn't need to reboot as the changes to the .profile will take place the next time the user in question logs in. HTH.

You shouldn't need to reboot as the changes to the .profile.
You can source
For example
. ./.profile for Sh
. ./.kshrc for kshrc
source ~/.cshrc for cshrc .
