SCO OpenServer Enter. Ed. 5.0.4

I'm not able to connect to the SCO Server using Telnet, FTP, or HTTP which was working till today.
I'm able to ping the server from any terminal or PC and vice-versa.

Can anyone help on this.

Thanks in Advance...

Arun

Is /etc/inetd listed when you do a ps -ef | grep inetd

If not, you need to restart it, possibly using:

/etc/rc2.d/S85tcp start

HTH.

Thanks for the reply KenCunningham.

One of the weirdest things happened, We were closed yesterday and I'd shutdown the server for the day. Today I was hoping to solve the issue. And I couldn't beleive it. Telnet, Ftp, http are working...

But I don't understand I'd restarted the server 4 - 5 times. I still don't get the root cause.

By the way i did run the command you gave, and below is the output.

root 322 1 0 08:44:32 ? 00:00:00 /etc/inetd

HTH

hi,

Were there any errors in /usr/adm/messages , mail ?
if you do netstat -m , were there any streams that failed
Is ther any errors in /usr/adm/syslog

Basically check on your server , for any resource that is low ? Does your system run slow when this happened ?

just a few more thoughts , let us jnow how you get on

Hi DSMARWAY,

There were no errors in /usr/adm/messages & mail. No failed streams. But there is this error which is still there in /usr/adm/syslog

Aug 16 14:42:52 scosysv telnetd[6915]: can't find user in protected password database
Aug 16 14:43:27 scosysv bootpd[641]: bad addr len from from Ethernet address 52.41.53.20.10.93

But since telnet, ftp, http are working, I guess this is not the problem.

We've a LTS (Lan Terminal Server), that I'm checking out. this could've triggered the problem.

I really appreciate the time you've spent. Life has never been easy with Unix for a MS guy like me until I came into this Forum.
