Hi all

Are there any dangers in opening a telnet session to send information to a windows socket?
I mean the data sent is not secret, just a trigger for a windows process. The Unix box wont be able to be exploited in any way?

Thanks

nope, shouldn't be possible, even if the socket at the windows side is bad it shouldn't be able to send anything back to your box to cause harm.

only if you mean to actually use ssh though, if you're telnetting to a non ssh/telnet port (i.e. smtp port, or instrument control port or equivalent) then you don't want ssh.
