Hi all,

I use telnet to connect to my UNIX sun server box. Recently, it was just so slow just to prompt me the login entry. From internal network, it took me 80 seconds before it asked me for the login name. However, after the login and password are verified and the telnet connection is established, everything works okay in the usual normal speed.

Can anyone help me ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

Are you telnet from windows machine or unix machine? Check make sure you use hosts file instead of DNS file. Plus check for network congestion on your NIC as well.

I had the same problem when I first installed the OS. The cause was a incorrect entry in my resolv.conf file. If you are using DNS make sure your resolv.conf and defaultrouter settings are set correctly. You can find out what your network settings are by issuing the ifconig –a and the netatat –rn commands. Hope this helps

I have resolved the problems by deactivating the DNS. I removed dns for host in the /etc/nsswitch.conf file.
Thank you guys for your helpful input.
