I have our ancient Mitel NuPoint Messenger/Baypoint VM attached to a serial to ethernet converter. I can telnet to the machine fine, but I'm getting double carriage returns every time I hit enter key. Sames goes for the letters. The menu system is just letter-based, so if I hit (M) to modify a mailbox I get M twice. Its very annoying. The only thing that works is going to the console to make changes.

I am using the Linux telnet client and just running it like this.
$ telnet 10.0.0.10 4098

I tried to toggle crlf but that has no effect.

Any help is appreciated.

What Telnet Client are you using? If you're using a terminal emulator, such as Procomm, etc., check its terminal config to turn Character Echo OFF.

If you are seeing double digits and the VM is responding as if only one was received then you have character echo turned on somewhere.
