As many of you may well know, Flash 4 has a new command to add. The Tell Target command. If you don't know how to use it, read on. The Tell Target command is basically used to tell something to do something (usually a movie clip). But the clip you want to command must be in the same frame as the instance. I'll give you an example of how it might be used. Say you were making a shooting game. You would have a movie clip showing a bottle being blown to pieces, with a stop command present in the clip's beginning and end frames. Once you have placed the clip in your movie, double click it to bring up the instance menu. Type in an instance name, such as Bottle. The movie clip will just show a bottle. You might put an invisible button in front of it. Then, you go into actions for the button and choose Tell Target. Then, double click on the icon next to the word Bottle, or whatever you chose the name to be. Now, choose what you want the movie clip Bottle to be told, in this case, play. Click OK and you have a movie clip that will play when you click on the invisible button in front of it. Simple, right? Yes. But, errors are easily made with this. Make sure when you name your movie clip, you don't double click on the invisible button. if you do that, you're telling the movie, if this button was this movie clip, here's what it would be named. Good luck and giddyup!
