Tell Googlebot not visit my pages with some querystring?

Hi,

How to tell Googlebot not visit my page titles.asp?something=s but let it visit page titles.asp?other=a

in robots.txt use

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: pagename.ext?param_name

should work

but a safer way is to 301 redirect the unwanted urls to the wanted ones, or if they are no longer valid make it so they return a 404 response and they will be removed from the index.

Can you tell me how to make they return a 404? Can I do that in asp? The server is not mine.
