Hi there,
I have 6 teleworker sets installed on a remote site, theses sets are rebooting every 61 minutes one at a time , every time in the same sequence (ext 251 then 214 then 238 then 252 then 237 then 239)and this happens since the first day of installation.
Today I have installed compression licenses and forced all the sets to G729 in order to reduce the bandwidth consumption, after that, I monitored the teleworker server for two hours. The same rebooting sequence still happening.
From your understanding and your experience, what could be the raison for that?

Are they all at the same remote site? I have never encountered this, but my instincts are telling me that it would be something specific to the remote environment.

If you were monitoring the TW server and it did not go down, nor did your phone system go down, then the last place to look would be the remote site. I would not think the problem would be with the Internet connection either, or all would go down at the same time. Do you have enough bandwidth? Something else to consider too.

thanks Paterson
all sets are at the same site,i dont think it's a bandwidht issue because i moved all sets from G711 to G729,no thing changed.

Interesting problem. Never heard of this before. It certainly does sound like some type of heartbeat is going missing causing your sets to reboot. I am at a loss. What layer 2 device are you using at the remote end?

Well, I found the problem, I gave two telephones static IP addresses . I noticed that only the four other telephones rebooted.
I put all the telephones in statics IP, NO phone has rebooted
Conclusion: DHCP PROBLEM
I asked the IT Tech. to check his router, he found the LEASE TIME at… 60 minutes!!!
THAT’S the reason WY the telephones were rebooting every 60 minutes
Dear Sirs, pay attention to the lease time of the DHCP
Good day.

Always give ipphones the highest possible lease time
Now you know why :)

Ummmmm, well I'm sure glad you found that the DHCP was the problem. But, I have not seen a Mitel IP phone reboot due to DHCP lease time. If that were the case, then Mitel IP phones would reboot regardless of lease time.

I would suggest that the low DHCP lease time HIGHLIGHTED what the real problem would be. If you extend the lease time to 1 week, I'm sure you would still see the phones rebooting every week. You may want to keep looking for the real problem.

Or you can just leave the problem hidden by implementing static IP settings at the IP phone level. Hopefully, the next tech will know not to use DHCP at the site.

Good point Paterson, I continue the troubleshooting. Now what I am not able to explain is, when the ip phone get’s its ip address from the icp 3300 it never reboot, even with a lease time of 5 minutes (I tried it at my office).
There is something different between the router dhcp server and the icp 3300 dhcp server in the leasing protocol. What? I don’t get it yet

Do you have access to a 3300 Tech Handbook? There are multiple instructions for correctly setting up DHCP on other external DHCP servers if not using the embedded 3300 DHCP server. It will all depend on the type of external DHCP server the site is using.

What DHCP server are you using? The set would only reboot after the lease expires if the server rejects the renewal request after the T1 timer expires (50% of the lease timer). As others have said, have the DHCP server admin double-check his settings, 'cuz something's not right.

Does the DHCP server issue the same IP to the phones after the lease expiration? Phones cannot change IP on the fly.
Is it possible to create a static records on the DHCP server to assign the same IP to specified MAC?
