I had a strange request from someone. Is it possible to disconnect the bell in a standard WE 500, 2500, etc type and replace it with a buzzer instead? This is for a set connected directly to the PSTN.

Thanks for any help.

Assuming you can get a buzzer than will work off of ring voltage (75~90vac), then yes it should work.

belevedere, Do you know if such a thing is commercially available? Thanks for your help.

Try sandman.com, call in, ask for one of the technical wizards and explain your need. They specialize in classical telephony and will conjure up specialty hardware for exact customer need, and best of all they know exactly what will fit in any given housing (2500, etc.). I have ordered from them before and they have provided 100% success on the first pass, every time.
