Thanks in advance. I am running the IPO 500 Manager 6.2 (14).
IPO = 4.2(14)

I have a scenario where I have a remote employee in Mexico that connects via VPN to work, home office is in the United States. The remote user is using the Soft Phone on their pc ( Phone Manager PC Softphone) but the voice quality is not that good, a lot of poor voice quality, choppiness, break ups, etc.

I need some clarification on the TeleCommuter mode. I have several remote users that use this option because the voice quality is better but they live in the USA. If the remote user in Mexico uses the telecommuter mode are they being charged with the call? I am just unsure how that is handled for an out of country #.

Rob

Doc, we better back up. We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

The call is an outgoing call from the system to the user, so the system side is billed not the user in Mexico :)

would the system side be billed for the call handing off to the Mexico # or will the system side be billed for just the long distance calls made by the system?

It will be billed for both calls for the duration, what happens is he tells phone manager what number he wants the system rings him then connects him to the number requested the system is linking the two calls together and so gets billed for both sides of the call for the duration of the call :)

No worries, think of it as plain old phone manager with an analogue handset, that's how it works basically :)

the analogue handset would probably work better than the soft phone. the soft phone works great when calling internally but when a remote user makes an external call (outside the company) the voice quality stinks.

Is the system running analogue trunks? Analogue to IP can be very troublesome. Try not to use continuous telecommuter mode or the call will be for the entire time he/she is logged in :)

The continuous mode is not checked on the soft phone (telecommuter mode) log in. To be honest, I am not sure how to check for analogue trunks, I know that internally we all have the Avaya 4610SW IP phones. I assumed it was all IP and then the Avaya IPO 500 connects from "P1" on the left front side to the voice T1 and the LAN connection on the back goes straight to the internal network switch.

Analogue trunks are an instead of or a fallback for a T1 normally, so if you are using T1 you shouldn't have to worry really. Analogue trunks are what you have at home, the basic service that dates back to the invention of telehones :)

If the quality is good on internal calls I would try a VPN phone
the quality is better so maybe that will suit you.

I tried a VPN phone and it had poor quality at one of the remote user's house (cable modem), it seem to work good at my home (FIOS)
